Can I claim a laptop on the tax as a sole proprietorship?
I am currently working as a solo guitar teaching professional in some local primary schools. I use my computer to write invoices / track attendance or clients e-mail / write partitions etc etc, but it is old and unreliable – and I'm looking to buy a laptop to do all this (the Asus Eee PC). Is it possible for me to buy one and claim it on tax? If yes, how it works, I only need to send in the receipt at tax time? I am in the STS. Cheers!
Now … I do not know enough about computers – but apparently Asus EEE is very very cheap? Is that correct? If you're in the STS (not more STS – but the relief is the same) – if it is less than $ 1,000, you can recover immediately – Exactly. You will need to include the sales and professional articles in the appendix of your tax return for individuals. (Figure net go to paragraph 14 of the additional tax return (Form PER 2007 tax return – 2008 could be slightly different) Details to go to P8 of the Business and Professional Items Schedule "), you must send the receipt to the ATO – just hang on to it. You only need to show them if they ever contact you later and ask for verification.
